9:48 a.m. Sunday
this is the best time of day. the sun is streaming into the apartment. from the windows up high, the blue sky cheers the place too. it's quiet. the day is cold outside (only 30), but the coffee is almost ready. a great time to just stay in and read the sunday papers.
the papers didn't come this morning, but Chris is picking them up on his way home from the grocery hunt. he'll make his excellent scrambled eggs. then after I've triaged the papers, read my favorite stuff, plus whatever "important" stuff that just can't wait, I'll put the rest aside and get on with whatever big projects I've plotted for the day. the deck needs winterizing, time to bring in the terra cotta pots so they won't swell with frozen dirt and shatter over the long winter. time to cut back dead growth. time to cover the deck furniture and the grill.
and time to end this blog. with some 300 posts over 5 years and 2 weeks, the BGN (as Gregorio efficiently nicknamed it) chronicled a lot. a hell of a lot. but it never caught on as a way to keep everyone in touch in the way I envisioned. and that's not bad. it just is. you cannot make someone utilize a device for which they have no use. even the most tech-savvy among us never really embraced it, nor did the most visual find the photo function of much use, nor did the most creative and gifted writers and storytellers feel inspired by its format.
and other mediums have evolved, Facebook most prominent among them. there's still a huge disconnect, though between the Midwestern contingent and that of the West Coast. they Ashley clan is separate and divided by time and distance. I miss y'all terribly. maybe one day we'll all live near each other again. maybe in retirement. maybe we'll build that big gay retirement complex in the countryside.
I won't take this blog down, though ... at least for now. thought about it. but really, there are so many interesting old posts and photos. some political, some funny, some just mundane. in the mundane, though, there's so much to savor.
thinking of y'all ... and always keeping you in my best girlfriends notebook.
